Counties where the most income is left after rent
What matters is not the salary line, it is what remains once housing is paid. This ranking subtracts twelve months of the typical local rent from the typical local household income, county by county.

Take Matching QuizMethodology
We use the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey 5-year estimates for median household income and median gross rent in every county, then subtract twelve months of that rent from the annual income figure.
The remainder is rescaled to a 0-100 index across all ranked counties. Counties under 20,000 residents are excluded to keep the estimates stable.
This is a gross figure. It does not deduct federal, state or local taxes, utilities, childcare or transport, and it is not personalised advice.
